On Rotation

Music is a big part of why BLACKxWOLF exists. This is a space to share what’s been on repeat lately: longtime favourites, new discoveries and tracks we keep coming back to.

For this first edition, here are five picks from our current rotation.

Boundaries — Death will follow me

Album: Yearning: The Unbeautiful After · July 17, 2026

We personally can't get enough of Boundaries! Their latest album Yearning: The Unbeautiful After has been on repeat 4–5 times EVERY WEEK since its release on July 17, 2026!

The unfiltered pain and anger, unsettling panic chords, crushing breakdowns, extreme guitar distortion, and Matthew McDougal's brutal vocals make this an absolute masterpiece of modern metalcore.

Every track hits a different nerve, but Death Will Follow Me has really gotten a hold of us. Having experienced a personal loss ourselves about a year ago, this song hits incredibly close to home.

Its raw portrayal of grief, the unfairness of losing someone without warning, and the anger of knowing you can't change what happened resonate deeply with us. The aggressive vocals, bone-breaking 808s, crushing breakdowns, and beautiful cleans help us process everything we're carrying inside.

Shared pain through music. Sometimes, that's exactly what we need.

Yeah, this one's staying on repeat!

Slipknot — Disasterpiece

Album: Iowa · August 28, 2001

Bit of a difficult one.

Despite not enjoying much of Slipknot's music since .5: The Gray Chapter (2014) and feeling disappointed by the band's personal and musical evolution, one thing remains undeniable:

Slipknot has been one of the most influential bands in our personal musical history.

After discovering metal through Korn, Coal Chamber, and Metallica, Slipknot's self-titled debut in 1999 opened the door to an entirely new world. Its rawness, chaos, and almost psychotic atmosphere made something click inside us. Heavy music wasn't just music anymore.

IT WAS US, AND WE WERE IT!

While the self-titled debut will always hold a special place in our damaged hearts and minds, Slipknot's 2001 follow-up, Iowa, sealed the deal for us as one of the greatest metal albums ever.

Picking one favorite track is nearly impossible, but Disasterpiece, with its iconic opening line and crushing closing breakdown, takes the spot.

Fueled by childhood bullying, humiliation, and unresolved pain, the song captures rage spiraling into aggression, alienation, and self-hatred — feelings some of us know all too well.

Musically, it's the perfect example of what makes Iowa so hostile and suffocating: chaotic rhythms, dissonance, relentless percussion, and Corey's disturbingly personal vocals combine into something brutally intense.

If you haven't revisited Disasterpiece or Iowa in a while, do yourself a favor.

It still brings out some ancient shit in us, hitting just as hard as it did back in 2001!

Thy Art is Murder — Holy War

Album: Holy War · June 26-30, 2015

Some things deserve to be called out, and the song "Holy War" does exactly that.

We love how with this song "Thy Art Is Murder" tears into religious extremism, hypocrisy, and the endless bloodshed committed in the name of some supposedly higher power. People using religion to justify murder, oppression, and hatred while condemning anyone who questions their beliefs is fucking infuriating.

How can something supposedly sacred become an excuse for destroying lives and suppressing freedom?

But the album "Holy War" goes beyond religion - confronting racism, political conflict, child abuse, and animal cruelty.

It exposes those who exploit power, hide behind ideology, and cause suffering while pretending to stand for something righteous - something that clearly needs to happen more often these days!

We reject religion entirely and believe the world would be better off without it. Faith and blind belief aren't virtues in our eyes when they discourage critical thinking, excuse cruelty, and put dogma above human lives. Too often, they divide people rather than bring them together.

Give us reason over superstition, critical thinking over blind obedience, and compassion over condemnation any day.

Paired with crushing riffs, relentless aggression, and punishing vocals, Holy War is the perfect soundtrack for telling religious dogma exactly where it can go.

We really love this song and album - No gods, no blind obedience, and no fucking excuses for cruelty!

Threat Signal — A New Beginning

Album: Under Reprisal · May 26, 2006

One of Canada's finest — and one of our favorites!

Tightly synchronized, almost machine-like guitar riffs, aggressive vocals, melodic choruses, technical rhythms, and prominent lead-guitar work. In our opinion, an absolute classic!

Don't get us wrong, we here at BLACKxWOLF don't spend our entire existence drowning in hopelessness and misery, surrounded by pain and personal suffering, or constantly crying about the state of the world. Mostly, we do — but not all the time.

Over the years, though, the darker days have started to outnumber the brighter ones. And on those increasingly rare days when we actually feel some hope for the future, both personally and for the world, we love coming back to this band, this album, and especially this track.

"A New Beginning" is all about breaking free from a suffocating life, healing old wounds, reclaiming control, and finding the strength to start over without letting the past define your future. Its musical and lyrical hooks sink deep into us!

Combine that message with incredible guitar work, amazing vocals, and those absolutely epic vocal harmonies that run throughout the entire album, and a nostalgic longing for the good old days — and maybe their return — suddenly feels a little less out of reach.

Sometimes, a little hope goes a long way.

And sometimes, we just want to listen to some great fucking music!
